Tawainese star Lin Chiling, 47, tied the knot with Japanese popstar, EXILE’s Akira, 41, in 2019 and the couple welcomed their first child, a son, whom Chiling refers to as “Little Baobei”, in January this year.

Although Chiling, who now lives in Japan, has mostly stayed out of the spotlight since her marriage, she recently attended an event as the spokesperson for a health product.

There, she talked about “Little Baobei”, who turns one soon, and the challenges she faces as an older mum.

Chiling revealed that her son looked like Akira at birth, but has slowly started to resemble her as well.

“[His] eyes are round like mine, has lots of hair like his dad, is fairer like me, and has his dad’s nose. [I think] everyone will try to piece his features together after this,” beamed Chiling.

Chiling went on to reveal that she had hit a low after giving birth.

“[My body] has yet to fully recover. My mood was down, and I think it’s the depression that everyone talks about,” she said.

She stressed the importance of having support from her husband.

“Every night, before sleeping, we would hold hands and pray. I would also tell him about the things I faced that day, and the little bit of sorrow I experience when I feel powerless. He is able to understand [my situation] better through this, and our lives together will be able to grow and improve.”

Chiling added that Akira and her are both new to parenthood, and they have many things they are clueless about.

“I feel that we are learning together every day, and we look after and understand each other. He will prepare chicken essence for me, and sometimes cook,” said Chiling.

Chiling cried as she talked about the challenges of becoming a mother at an older age

While speaking about having a child at an older age, Chiling said she hopes to give other senior mums some confidence.

“I never gave up. I believed that one day, a miracle would happen,” said Chiling.

She went on to address women who are single and unmarried, and those who are older, but are still trying to conceive.

“I also had to put in a lot of effort, and tried [for a baby] over 10 times. So don’t give up, have some faith. It is also important to take care of one’s body, and start taking care of it early,” said Chiling, who was getting choked up with emotion.

Tears then started flowing down her face as she said: “Many mums will face this. This is now a common problem in our society. No matter how tough things might be, it will also pass!”

When asked about whether she is considering having a second child, Chiling said that she “doesn’t think it is possible” for her, and she feels that one’s body will give them an indication of that.

She tried her best and managed to welcome a “miracle life”, and she is extremely thankful for that.

As for her career, Chiling doesn’t have any plans to return to showbiz anytime soon, and wants to focus on looking after her son.

“I’ll at least wait until he starts going to school, then think about my own situation. My body will tell me what I should do!” she said.
