Lawrence Wong On Filling In For Aloysius Pang In New Ch 8 Drama: “I Will Do My Best To Bring Justice To This Role”
He tells 8days.sg how he feels about taking on what was supposed to be the late actor’s first lead Ch 8 role.
It was meant to be Aloysius Pang’s first lead role in a Ch 8 drama. Then one of the greatest tragedies to hit local showbiz happened. And today (Feb 11), it was announced that China-based Singaporean actor Lawrence Wong will be stepping into the role originally slated for Aloy in the upcoming My One In A Million. Lawrence, whose popularity skyrocketed after playing palace guard Hai Lan Cha in the mega-hit Chinese drama The Story of Yanxi Palace, tells 8days.sg that it took him “about one or two days” to decide on taking on the role when Mediacorp came calling about “a week-plus” ago.
“When [Mediacorp] called, they said that it was an emergency and hoped that I could help,” says Lawrence. “So I discussed with my management and we shuffled around the jobs that I have on in China. But I would have to film a movie in China concurrently [with My One In A Million] so I would have to fly back and forth, and they said they would also try to accommodate my schedule. The thing is, I’ve always wanted to come back to Singapore and act — it’s something reporters have been asking me. And I guess this is the time to come back in my own little way and ‘add oil’ to the local scene.”
