Father’s Day for Stanley Ho’s children was very different this year. The casino magnate passed away last month at the age of 98, and is survived by three wives and 15 children. His kids have chosen to commemorate their first Father’s Day without him in their own respective ways, but Laurinda Ho, who is the daughter of Stanley's third wife Ina Chan, has gone the extra mile to make the day even more memorable.

She held an ice cream drive on the streets, where she gave out free ice cream to passers-by as a tribute to her father’s love for doing charity. After the event ended, she posted photos of the event on her Instagram, along with photos of herself with her dad when she was a child.

Months after we visited the upper floor following reports of shuttered shops and sparse foot traffic, we returned on a Friday afternoon to see whether things had changed. This time, Level 2 had noticeably more people around, from teenagers and tourists to older shoppers. More importantly, shoppers were actually interacting with the stalls, trying things on and making purchases, rather than simply browsing and walking through. There are still plenty of shuttered units, and Level 2 remains much quieter than the ever-busy ground floor, but the atmosphere felt noticeably livelier during our visit. Bugis Street is also hosting its “Somewhere @ Bugis Street” weekend events as part of its ongoing efforts to bring more activity to the area.
