Korea’s “President Of Children’s Shows”, 81, Dies After Visiting Hospital For Cold

Veteran Korean TV host Lee Sang Yong, known as the "President of Children’s Shows", passed away on May 9 following a cardiac arrest. He was 81.
According to his agency Emade Entertainment, Sang Yong visited the hospital for cold symptoms and a cough that morning.
On his way back, he collapsed and suffered a cardiac arrest.
He was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment but sadly passed away.
His sudden passing was particularly shocking as Sang Yong had no major health issues and had just participated in an event the day before his passing (May 8), noted Emade.
His family, who were in Hong Kong, rushed back upon hearing the news. His funeral was held on May 12.
Sang Yong began his career as emcee of MBC's Pleasant Cheongbaekjeon in 1973 and went on to host several programmes including Let’s Go to the Market.
He gained widespread recognition as the host of the variety show Let’s Gather and Sing where he became known as “Popeye ajeossi” due to his muscular physique and cheerful persona.
