TVB Actress Koni Lui Panned For Reserving Parking Lot By Standing On It
Some of us might have seen people attempting to chope parking places by standing on the lots. And for the record, it’s really not cool.
One would think that a celeb would avoid trying to reserve lots in such a manner, for chances of them being recognised and publicly shamed is doubly high.
That didn’t stop Hong Kong model-actress Koni Lui, 40, from doing so, though.
Recently, on the Facebook group “Drive Safely”, a netizen shared dash cam footage of a lady standing in the middle of a parking lot, seemingly trying to reserve it for someone else.
In the video, the lady, who was dressed in a hot pink skirt suit, could be seen talking on her phone while she occupied the parallel parking lot. She did not show any intention of walking away, even as a car pulled up beside her. Other drivers eventually had no choice but to drive off in search of other parking spots.
The video was captioned: “Miss Lui, you can’t reserve a spot with your body…”.
The footage soon went viral, with many agreeing that the person in the video was indeed Koni. They lambasted her for being “inconsiderate” and “lacking virtue”.
A netizen, who claimed to be the original owner of the dash cam footage, later left a comment on the video explaining what exactly went down that day.
“There were cars in front of me and behind me, so I wanted to turn into the lot to avoid blocking their way. However, when I approached the lot, Miss Lui did not seem like she was going to make way. The guy standing beside her also came over to say that the lot was reserved for them,” they wrote.
Koni, who stars in TVB sitcom Come Home Love: Lo and Behold, attended a press event on June 16, where she confirmed she was the woman in the dash cam vid. However, she emphasised that she “wasn’t using her body to reserve a lot”.
The actress said she had been in the area for work when another driver offered to give up the lot to her. She explained that she was simply standing at the spot while waiting for her staff to arrive, and she later moved to stand on the pedestrian pavement.
Um, so she was reserving a lot another driver gave up to her?
According to Hong Kong media, it is illegal to reserve a lot by standing on it. One can be fined HK$5K (S$850) or jailed up to three months for obstructing the way of other people or their vehicles and causing them inconvenience or harm in public.
