Is That A Wig? Kim Soo Hyun’s Bad Make-Up & Hair Under Scrutiny After Tearful Press Conference

By now you would have read about South Korean actor Kim Soo Hyun’s tearful press conference on March 31 addressing his relationship with late actress Kim Sae Ron.

Dressed in a black suit, the 37-year-old spent around 30 minutes reading a prepared statement, often sobbing and wiping his tears.

He denied dating Sae Ron when she was underage, insisting that their relationship only began in 2019 when she was 19 and he was 31.  

He also explained his reluctance to acknowledge their relationship in March 2024, at the height of his drama Queen Of Tears’ popularity, to avoid overshadowing the hard work of those involved in the production.

Despite his emotional apology, netizens were unconvinced, with many criticising him for “overacting” and likening it to a sequel of Queen of Tears. Our favourite meme is the one calling it "King of Fake Tears".

Soo Hyun’s appearance also became a hot topic of discussion.  

Netizens pointed out that unlike other celebrities who appear dishevelled during public apologies, Soo Hyun’s hair was meticulously styled, and his face fully made up, complete with foundation. Yet, he left his facial hair unshaven, prompting people to question his sincerity.

And then there were those unflattering images of his foundation smudging and caking from his tearful breakdown making the rounds online.

The phrase “Kim Soo Hyun’s foundation” quickly trended on Weibo, with many commenting that the “foundation around his nose is completely gone”.

Others wanted to know the brand of foundation he was using as it "doesn’t seem long-lasting at all".

There was speculation that it could be from cosmetics brand Y.O.U, which Soo Hyun previously endorsed. Their partnership was terminated after the press conference as the brand “wanted to avoid being associated with his messy appearance”, joked netizens.

Besides his make-up, there was also talk that Soo Hyun was wearing a wig as there was an "obvious difference in hair quality on the sides of the actor's hair".

“I wear wigs too. It’s obvious from the hairline — there’s a net glued to his scalp, and the connection between the wig and natural hair is uneven," wrote one netizen.
