KFC China Sues Chinese Actor Jia Nai Liang For S$43mil After He Offends Fast Food Chain During Livestream
The actor claimed KFC reuses their oil and now he’s getting scalded for what he said.
Live streaming has become a great source of income for many celebrities, and 38-year-old Chinese actor Jia Nai Liang is one of the many who have jumped onto the live sales bandwagon.
And he's apparently really good at it. So good that he reportedly once sold nearly 56mil yuan worth of goods in just two live broadcasts.
But the actor's recent scandal may just put him off live streaming for a while.
His live stream get-up
The actor was promoting a brand of airfryers on live stream when he claimed that food prepared by an airfryer is healthier. While there was absolutely nothing wrong in him saying that, he did, however, cross a line when he name dropped Colonel Sanders.
To emphasise the benefits of using an airfryer, Nai Liang said, “The oil Kentucky Fried Chicken uses to fry their stuff is used over and over again, it’s unhealthy”.
Word quickly got to KFC China and unsurprisingly, they were really unhappy with his accusation.
According to reports, the company announced that they were going to sue Nai Liang for 200mil yuan (approximately S$42.7mil) for damaging their reputation.

After he was informed about the lawsuit, Nai Liang went on another live stream the next day to make a public apology to KFC. The stream was reportedly viewed by more than a hundred thousand netizens.
However, many of Nai Liang's fans have spoken up for him, saying that the actor should not be punished for what he said. “You mean they throw away their oil after one use?” asked one netizen.
