Hong Kong singer Kenny Bee, 69, and ex-wife, controversial socialite Teresa Cheung, have two children together, Nicholas, 32, and Chloe, 27. Kenny is now married to his former personal assistant, Fan Jiang, with whom he has two daughters Blythe, 17, and Eloise, 12.

His two older kids are close to Fan Jiang, whom Chloe addresses as mum on social media.

On Monday, Chloe, who is now studying in London, revealed on social media that she had been scammed by people who claimed to be from the Chinese Embassy in the UK.

She was first asked to retrieve an important document, but she was busy at that time so she didn't give the call much thought.

They reached out to her again, saying that they would assist her in contacting customer service to find out which documents they were looking for.

Chloe did not find the call suspicious in any way, and immediately gave her personal information to the other party, so they could help her “check” on the document.

She was then told that a tourist in Guangzhou was under investigation by the authorities for carrying a large number of bank cards with them. And one of the cards had her name on it.

Chloe panicked and immediately contacted the “Guangzhou city police station hotline” that was provided by the scammers.

When Chloe dialled the hotline to file a report, someone who claimed to be a police officer questioned her about the case. They then told her to refrain from telling anyone else about her situation, including her parents.

They claimed that she would attract the attention of the 'criminal' by doing so, and instead told her to download an app to keep a written record.

She recalled following the 'police officer’s' exact instructions and said that she was “so anxious that [she] even started crying”.

After the phone call, she was contacted again by the 'police officer', who reminded her to keep mum as “the country was still investigating the case”.

They also told her to ignore any future calls she might receive from the embassy.

That night, Chloe called Kenny and Fan Jiang to tell them what happened. After understanding the situation, Fan Jiang informed Chloe that she had been scammed by a syndicate, and there were many other instances of students studying overseas getting scammed.

Chloe now hopes the scammers would not “use her personal information to do anything illegal”, and appeals for everyone to not fall for the scam like she did.
