Kara Hui Likens Fiona Sit, 41, To A Porcelain Doll, Says “This Is About As Far As [She] Can Go” If She Doesn’t Change Her Image

Those weren’t the only harsh words Kara, who is a mentor on new acting reality competition Memories Beyond Horizon, had for the Hong Kong star.

Even before Chinese acting reality competition Memories Beyond Horizon debuts on Dec 17, there has been quite a bit of buzz about the show.

The series, which sees 15 contestants including Hong Kong stars Fiona Sit and Aarif Rahman, pitting their acting skills against one another, not only features A-listers like Jackie Chan as moderator, and Kara Hui, Francis Ng, Charmaine Sheh and director Derek Yee as mentors, it also got netizens all excited for the upcoming War and Beauty reunion on the show.

And now its pilot episode, which aired last Sunday (Dec 10), is the talk of the town.

Fiona is one of 15 contestants on the show

When Fiona, 41, was introducing herself to the mentors, she shared that she joined the competition as she hopes to become a more diverse actor.

When Derek asked what role has she not tried, Fiona, who got her start in showbiz in 2001 as a singer, replied: “I have never played a villain.”

When Kara heard this, she immediately rolled her eyes.

The veteran actress then went on to unleash some harsh words on Fiona, and boy, did she not hold back.

"Now you give me the feeling that you are a porcelain doll. This is restricting you because you are already over 40. I think age is just a number. If you grasp it well, it will work to your advantage. If not, it will hold you back, so I think you should be careful. This is definitely your biggest opportunity, if you fail to grasp it, I'll honestly tell you that this is about as far as you can go," she said.

Fiona's face froze upon hearing the comments and the atmosphere in the room became rather tense.

Awkward.

Telling it like it is
She did not like what she heard

While some netizens commented that Kara was a little harsh, many felt that acid-tongue mentor had hit the nail on the head and praised her for telling it like it is. They also criticised Fiona for acting all cute and girly despite her age.

“Finally, someone is speaking the truth!” said one netizen, while another wrote: “I am [Fiona’s] fan but I don’t understand why she is still an idol. Is it because she has no talent or the agency doesn’t know how to change her image.”

Criticised for having ‘princess disease’

When Fiona participated in Chinese reality competition Sisters Who Make Waves 3 earlier this year, she was criticised for having ‘princess disease’, a term that’s used to describe girls or women who are spoilt and narcissistic.

This was particularly true when contestants were split into groups for the last time. When Fiona heard that there was a chance that she would be transferred, she started yelling and kicking up a fuss, which irked viewers.
