Lydia Sum's Daughter Joyce Cheng Will Not Lose Weight For Her Boyfriend 'Cos There Are Many Other Guys Who Want Her

In March this year, there were reports claiming that Hongkong singer and body positivity icon Joyce Cheng, 34, who's the daughter of late comedian Lydia Sum and actor Adam Cheng, is dating a flower shop owner named Derek, 38. 

Joyce, who is currently preparing for her concert next month, recently went on Carol Cheng's podcast, When I Was Young I Listen To The Radio, where she took the opportunity to address rumours that she lost weight for her boyfriend. 

"That's so superficial, Joyce Cheng would never lose weight for a man!," said the singer, who's been on the Keto diet for two years now.

"If I have to lose weight for a relationship, then this man is not deserving of my love. You guys make it sound like there's only one guy trying to woo me," she added. 

When Carol asked if she has too many suitors for her to manage, Joyce replied: "I can't handle them, [I received] so many gifts that I ran out of space at home to keep them."

Joyce and Carol also reminisced about how her mother Lydia, who passed away from liver cancer in 2008, used to show her off to her friends.

When Carol revealed that she was one of those friends, Joyce said: "I know, I'm so sorry."

"I used to find it quite awkward actually, when I return home from school, my mum would be sitting in the living room with her friends, and she would be playing the recording of me singing and dancing," revealed Joyce. 

"Did she ask you to sing on the spot?," Carol asked. 

"Of course she did! It was so awkward, but as a mother, she was very proud of me."

Carol also pointed out that people have been particularly critical towards Joyce, simply because she has famous parents.

"A little bit, but it depends on how you look at it. Back then people might have been harsh on me, but at least they recognised me," said Joyce.
