Hongkong stars Jordan Chan, 55, and Cherrie Ying, 39, who got married in 2010, have two sons togetherJasper, nine, and HoHo, two.

The couple, who moved to China for better job prospects, are now based in Shanghai, where Jasper also attends a local school.

Cherrie recently took to Douyin to share a clip of Jasper showing off his mastery of accents and dialects.

Jasper happily acted out scenes while speaking American-accented and British English, Shanghai dialect, Dongbei dialect, Italian and also a “Jordan dialect”, which Jasper said was inspired by observing his dad.

However, when Cherrie requested he speak Cantonese, an unwilling Jasper cutely whined: “But I don’t know how”.

Though the clip received more than a million likes, with many netizens praising Jasper for his talent, there were also those who reserved quite a bit of criticism for Jordan and Cherrie.

While some accused them of allowing Jasper to "forget his roots", others were confused as to why Jasper refused to speak Cantonese.

“When he was younger, he appeared on [the fifth season of] Where Are We Going, Dad with Jordan, who often spoke to him in Cantonese on the show,” one netizen pointed out.

There were netizens who also came to the family’s defense, saying that it's “normal” for a kid to forget how to speak a language if they don't use it often.

Cherrie has since deleted the Douyin vid because of the intense online debate.
