Joe Chen apologises for drink driving arrest

Taiwanese actress Joe Chen has released an apology on Weibo following her drink-driving charge yesterday morning.

The actress was pulled over by a police officer after running a red light yesterday and was found to have an alcohol level of 0.67mg in her system. At that time, she said that she was simply heading out to get some food after having a beer at home and did not expect to exceed the alcohol limit.

Joe has since issued a statement on social media, saying that she was sorry for her actions and will learn from this mistake.

"I am sorry to have worried everyone. I was drinking when taking a bath at home last night, and then I drove somewhere near my house to buy supper. I will treat this incident as a learning lesson and never violate traffic rules again. This is not only irresponsible to myself, but also irresponsible to others. I am also very sorry for the bad example I have set," she wrote.

The 38-year-old actress was subsequently released on a bail of NT$100,000 (approximately S$4,500) the same day.
