It has been a while since we last saw martial arts legend Jet Li on the big screen, but the 61-year-old has chosen to focus on studying Buddhism instead of chasing the next big Hollywood blockbuster.

Jet converted to Tibetan Buddhism in 1998.

In a recent interview with a Chinese daily, the actor revealed that his spiritual journey has led him to stop attending funerals, including those of close friends and family members.

“Some say I am heartless or cold-blooded, but I always reply, “Brother, who has not lost someone before?

When asked if he ever feels deep regret over the passing of friends, peers, or fellow celebrities, Jet plainly replied, “Why should I feel regret?”

He said that grief is often experienced by those who are “still trapped in the game” and that society’s perception of death is heavily shaped by dramatic portrayals in movies and television.

“They love to exaggerate scenes like: ‘Oh no, you died before I could see you one last time! You said you wanted a handbag, and I didn’t buy it for you!’” he said.

Jet also shared that his youngest daughter, Jada, 22, also gave him a fresh perspective on life.

He opened up about a personal family experience and shared that his youngest daughter, Jada, now 22, struggled with depression and suicidal thoughts when she was 19.

Jada has since recovered and recently graduated from Barnard College in May.

He shared that the experience led to open and honest discussions between them about life, death, and even inheritance, topics many consider as taboo today.

“We were very honest with each other, because it’s something everyone will have to face. Talk about it while you’re still alive. Say what’s on your mind so there’s no regret,” he said.

“The truth is, the moment we’re born, death is already part of the deal.” he said.
