Jet Li Says He Often Gets Mocked Online For Becoming S’pore Citizen

Martial arts legend Jet Li may have stepped back from the big screen in recent years, but he’s making a quiet comeback — this time on social media.

The 62-year-old started a Xiaohongshu account in July, where he’s been sharing glimpses of his daily life and connecting with fans.

Jet also appears looking visibly healthier and more energetic in his latest videos — a far cry from past rumours that he was seriously ill.

When asked how he feels seeing short clips of himself online, Jet said netizens typically fall into three camps: those who really like him and will always give him a like or follow regardless of content; those who are indifferent; and those who don’t like them that much.

Among the jabs he often gets: being mocked for his nationality, a label he shrugs off with humour.

Born in Beijing, Jet held US citizenship before becoming a Singapore citizen in 2009.

He owns property in Singapore and his two younger daughters, Jane, 25, and Jada, 22, also grew up here.

Jane and Jada are his daughters with his second wife, '80s bombshell actress Nina Li Chi. He has two older daughters, Si Li and Taimi Li, who are in their thirties, from his first marriage to Chinese former actress Huang Qiuyan.

“Some people will mock you no matter what you do: ‘'Oh, the Singapore actor is back’ or say things like ‘Trying to ride the wave again.’ It’s very normal. They just enjoy doing it,” he said with a smile.

He's not really bothered about whether people like him or how many followers he has: "I understand that not everyone is willing to listen [to him], that's very normal."

He added that even in his own household, not everyone’s a fan.

“There are three people at home who aren’t my fans — including my two younger daughters,” he joked.

“They hear me talk nonsense at home all the time. There’s no way they would want to follow me on social media too. Totally normal.”

Jet also shared a humorous story from a past dinner gathering where “a very famous star” brought his parents along.

Hong Kong film producer Tiffany Chen and retired actress Rosamund Kwan were also present.

“Everyone was praising the young star, calling him impressive,” Jet recalled. “Then suddenly the star’s mother said, ‘My idea of a little fresh meat is Jet Li!’ I said, ‘Thanks for the compliment, but I’m cured sausage now, not fresh anymore!’”
