“Women Are Required To Wear Fashionable Attire & Make-up”: Jay Park's Concert Venue Slammed For Dress Code

Korea-based American rapper Jay Park's performance tomorrow night (May 11) at the Shanghai branch of New York hip-hop club 1 OAK has been mired in controversy in the most unfashionable way.

According to the poster of the gig, guests are expected to follow a dress code when they turn up for the party.

Specifically, "Men are required to dress in casual or formal wear and are not allowed to wear shorts, tank tops, or sandals". On the other hand, "Women are required to wear fashionable attire and make-up and are not allowed to wear flip-flops."

It was also emphasised that 1 OAK reserves the rights to refuse entry to guests who don't abide by the dress code.

Fashion is so subjective though.

Fans of Jay and netizens were not happy with the stipulated dress code  seriously, what is "fashionable attire" and why insist women wear make-up?! —  and have taken to social media to criticise the club and Jay.

1 OAK has since released this statement on Weibo: "The required dress code had nothing to do with the performer we invited. The performer and his team did not have any requests or restrictions on the attire of the guests."

"It's us, the venue, who "advised" and "encouraged" the dress code, though it's not mandatory," 1 OAK added. They also extended their apology to "everyone, the performer himself and his team".

Netizens were not placated by the apology, and even criticised 1 OAK for not bothering to address Jay Park directly in their statement.

"Please be clear who you're apologising to because what you did caused Jay Park to be flamed," chastised one netizen.
