Jay Chou Lookalikes, Including An Egg Roll Seller, Team Up For Concerts, Charging 3 Times More Than Jay

Jay Chou impersonator Hei Lun made news last month for charging up to 2000 yuan (S$372) per ticket to watch him in concert.

Demand is so strong, at least according to a promotional poster circulating online about Hei Lun's busy schedule, that netizens have surmised that he is busier than Jay himself.

This time, businesses are cashing in on the hype and recently promoted a ‘Double Lun Attack’ concert, in which another of the Mandopop King’s doppelgangers will perform. 

Nicknamed Zhou Dan Lun – loosely playing on Jay’s Mandarin name – he first gained recognition in 2020 as a street vendor selling egg rolls in Hebei, China.

Since then, the hawker has done numerous live streams to promote his business, even going on a tour to promote his egg rolls.

Tickets to see the two lookalikes in person were quickly sold out, with prices in Taiyuan costing 880 yuan ($164) to 3500 yuan (S$653).

Hangzhou’s concerts commanded higher prices, with the most expensive ticket costing 6000 yuan (S$1,120), three times more than Jay Chou’s.

However, some have offered clarification on the prices saying the expensive tickets refer to the cost of reserving a booth where sets of wine and platters of fruits are offered.

Unlike Hei Lun who is known to perform Jay’s greatest hits, Zhou Dan Lun was present to simply sell egg rolls at the venue lobby.

However, he was dragged up on stage while in Taiyuan, with a fan requesting him to sing Jay’s hit ‘Stranded’.

Zhou Dan Lun declined and said, “I can’t sing so Hei Lun will sing it for everyone.”

However, you might have to wait if you are now planning to see Hei Lun in action.

The lookalike suddenly announced the cancellation of July’s concerts after hearing diehard Jay fans voice their strong dissatisfaction with his actions and fame.

It seems such negativity did not sit well with Hei Lun who allegedly felt pressure from the blowback.

According to reports, a lawyer based in China also said Jay’s doppelgangers toe a fine line when it comes from profiting off the megastar.

“Even if the word ‘Jay Chou’ is not used for promotion, passing off his appearance, voice, etc, making people mistake him for Jay Chou, may still constitute an infringement of portrait and voice rights,” said the lawyer.
