A real life “Great Gatsby”.

Jay Chou kept his promise and paid for a bunch of fans’ meals in Singapore

When celebs visit Singapore for work, they can usually be spotted at various touristy locations.

Mandopop king Jay Chou, however, comes to our little red dot so often that he’s been spotted at the unlikeliest of places, including Founder Bak Kut Teh, a restaurant that he is known to love.

On January 10, he surprised fans once again. After the first of his two-night Carnival World Tour concert at the National Stadium, he declared via an Instagram post that he would settle the bill for any fan who spots and approaches him at any of the food establishments he would be visiting the next day.

Unsurprisingly, netizens immediately began speculating wildly on where he would go, not just to score some free food - although that definitely didn’t hurt - but also to meet Jay in person as well.

In the end, the 40-year-old shied away from his usual haunts and decided to turn up at Atlas Bar near Bugis instead.

“I said that I’d buy you a meal if you met me, and I settled the bill for several tables of fans at this restaurant today. Am I not a man of my word?” Jay quipped in an Instagram post on January 11.

Who says there's no free lunch in this world?

And it seems like the singer enjoyed doing so, as he declared to the audience at his second concert that he would continue to do so on January 12.

Again, he stayed true to his word as he updated his Instagram Stories with a video of him walking up to a table of fans at yì by Jereme Leung and saying, “Bill please”, as the fans stood up looking pleasantly surprised. He also posted a photo with other fans who were lucky enough to run into him at Raffles Hotel.

This morning (Jan 13), as he was leaving the country, he posted another update on his Instagram Stories. “See you next time Singapore,” he wrote. “I’ll perform more magic tricks for you in future.”

What a nice guy.
