A Christmas miracle.

Jay Chou Fan In Coma For 5 Years Taps Fingers When Singer’s ‘Nunchucks’ Was Played

Last week, Mandopop King Jay Chou’s Christmas song went viral after it was deemed “awful” by a handful of netizens.

This week, another Jay Chou song made the news but for a completely different reason.

A Jay Chou fan, known only as Ah Qiang, has been in a coma for the past five years.

Ah Qiang recently celebrated his birthday at the Dalian No.4 People’s Hospital. There, the medical staff played a list of Ah Qiang’s favourite songs, including Jay’s 2001 hit ‘Nunchucks’ (双节棍).

Something akin to a Christmas miracle happened: Ah Qiang started tapping his fingers to the beat of the song.

Safe to say that everyone was shocked by his reaction.

According to Ah Qiang’s doctor, he was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive cancer that originates in the brain. Sadly, his condition never improved despite undergoing multiple surgeries.

Ah Qiang’s father passed away over 10 years ago, and he was raised by a his mother. After witnessing his reaction to Jay’s song, his mum said: “My son loved listening to Jay’s songs since a young age, but we’ve never played them for him. This is the first time, and we’re all elated by his response.”

Netizens were moved by the video, with many leaving supportive messages for Ah Qiang. “Get well soon, and you can listen to Jay’s songs with the rest of us fans,” they wrote.

“Jay’s songs brought warmth and strength to many, hopefully, Ah Qiang can wake up soon,” said another.
