Talk about bad luck. On Aug 29, Hong Kong actor Jason Wong (黃竣鋒), 44, was attacked and seriously injured because of a supposed case of mistaken identity.

On the night of the attack, Jason was at a gathering at a restaurant in Shenzhen with fellow actors, including Frankie Ng, Ai Wai and Chu Wing Tong.

During the meal, Jason was asked by Frankie to greet some people outside the restaurant, and it was while they were returning to their table that the attacker ran towards Jason.

“[He] was holding a kitchen knife, and slashed my face. He then went on to slash my left hand and waist too,” said Jason when interviewed by HK media. According to Jason, he was soaked in his own blood, and could see the skin from his face fall off.

Jason was immediately sent to the hospital where he underwent several surgeries. He was only able to speak five days later.

Thankfully, he did not suffer from any injuries to his neck, which would’ve made his injuries more severe.

Jason suffered serious injuries to his face

According to Jason, the wound on his face was so deep that his “eyeballs were nearly chopped off” too. The surgery on his face took six hours to complete, and he was given 100 stitches.

Jason said he was afraid to even look in a mirror. He also could not sleep as he would recall the horrifying attack every time he closed his eyes. He now has to  seek treatment from a psychologist

Jason swore that he had not offended anyone, and thinks his attacker had “recognised the wrong person”.

According to him, the attacker quickly realised he had the wrong person, though it was already too late.

“I still don’t know what happened, it feels like I had a terrifying nightmare,” said Jason.

Jason is also known for his fit physique

Jason’s upcoming projects, which were slated to start next month, had to be put on pause. He is also most worried about his mother as she has heart problems, and he is scared she would not be able to take the news well.

He also "doesn't dare" tell his wife and three children, who are in Hong Kong, about what happened.

Though Frankie promised to pay for his hospital bills, Jason is unsure if he will ever be able to act again, and feels lost regarding his future.

Jason and his "lookalike", Louis Koo

Jason is often dubbed by the Hong Kong media as the “knock-off Louis Koo", due to his resemblance to the A-list actor.

He got his start in showbiz after coming in third at ATV’s Mr Asia Contest in 2012.

He has played supporting characters in hit movies like The White Storm (2013), Line Walker (2016) and Shock Wave (2017), and is still waiting for a breakthrough role.
