"Learn It": Jacky Cheung To Fan Who Asked Him To Speak More Mandarin As She Doesn’t Understand Cantonese At HK Concert
Recently, there has been a trend of fans asking, or some say demanding, Cantonese-speaking singers to converse in Mandarin at their concerts.
Despite those requests being turned down, that hasn’t stopped fans from trying their luck.
The latest star to recieve such a request is Heavenly King Jacky Cheung. The 62-year-old is in the midst of his 24-show Jacky Cheung 60+ Concert Tour at the Hong Kong Coliseum.
Before each performance, Jacky would greet fans who are gathered outside the concert venue. And a video of such a fan meet recently made the rounds online.
In the clip, he could be seen shaking hands and accepting gifts from the crowd.
Amongst the cheers and screams of support from fans, one woman could be heard asking in Mandarin: “Can you speak more Mandarin at tonight’s concert? I came from far away and don't understand Cantonese.”
Instead of getting offended, the super nice star could be seen smiling behind his mask before pointing his fingers to the ground and replying in Mandarin: “Learn it!”. His response drew chuckles from the crowd.
Many netizens praised Jacky for his witty and cute response, while some were miffed by the fan's request.
“These people are really annoying. Isn't Cantonese worth respecting?” asked one netizen, while another wrote: “When you go to Hong Kong, you should learn a bit of Cantonese.”
