Jacky Cheung & Andy Lau Were Made To Look Like They Were Rivals In The ‘90s, Turns Out There Was Some Truth To It

Jacky and Andy were pitted against each other the most. While Jacky is known as the “God of Songs”, he once revealed in an interview that he is often left playing second fiddle to Andy when it comes to acting.

“We are friends who are competing with each other. [I have] no issues working [with Andy], but when it comes to movies, he will always play the lead. Most of the time, when he's around, I'll play the supporting role," said Jackie, who has worked with Andy in several movies, including 1988 action flick As Tears Go By, 2004 crime drama Jiang Hu, and 2016’s From Vegas To Macau III.

Not that Jacky minds, as he feels it's more important for an actor to interpret a role well rather than care about who gets top billing.

Instead, he is more bothered by how the media would deliberately make them out to be rivals.

"They made it seem as though [Andy] really has something against me. So in our hearts, there was a little distance between us. It could be a personality issue too," said Jacky.

Seems like the sentiment is mutual.

In another old interview, Andy once admitted that he cares a lot about what the public thinks of his singing and the reason he is not particularly good at it still is because he could not put down his pride and approach Jacky aka the God of Songs for advice.
