Jackie Chan Seen Buying Huawei Phone; Once Said All Chinese People Should Use Chinese Products
The star is a fan of the brand and has been using their mobile phones since 2016.
Martial arts legend Jackie Chan, 69, has never shied away from showing his support for China.
He has publicly expressed his patriotism on several occasions as well as his love for Chinese brands.
A netizen recently saw Jackie shopping for a mobile phone at a Huawei store in the Chongzhou county of Chengdu, and posted about it online.
“I was just at the Huawei store at Wanda Plaza and happened to bump into Jackie Chan. Didn’t expect him to go [to the store] to buy his mobile phone himself. I didn’t ask for his autograph ‘cos I didn’t want to disturb him. I waited till he was done shopping before approaching him for a photo but was rejected by his staff. Such a pity,” said the fan.
In the photos, Jackie can be seen checking out the different models and inquiring about them with Huawei staff.
According to the fan, Jackie wanted to buy the newly launched Mate 60 smartphone but was told it was out of stock and could only be pre-ordered.
He ended up getting the Mate X3.
Netizens were impressed by how down-to-earth Jackie is, saying that with his connections, he could probably get a phone by just making a call.
Some even suggested that Huawei gift the star a phone and make him their spokesperson.
Not everyone thought it was a good idea, though.
"Given Jackie Chan's past endorsement failures, it's better to pass on this," commented one netizen, while another said: "Better not get him to be the brand ambassador. All the companies he's endorsed have shut."
Jackie has been using Huawei phones since 2016.
In 2019, when a fan gave Jackie a Huawei phone at an event, he reportedly pulled out three smartphones from the brand, saying: “I use Huawei and have several of them. Chinese people should use domestic products. Wherever I go in the world, I would recommend it to others. I have used these for too long, and the screens have cracked."
The incident caused quite a stir at the time, and the president of Huawei's sales division even posted a special thank you message to the star.
