Ivy Chen’s father in debt because of gambling

Ivy Chen can’t seem to catch a break recently. After breaking up with her boyfriend of three years this week, it has been reported that her father is NT$300,000 (S$13,700) in debt due to gambling.

A man, who is only known to the press as Mr. Lin, shared that Ivy’s father owes him NT$300,000 and has been ordered by the court to repay him in installments. Ivy’s father, however, is said to have only paid one installment and has continuously delayed repayment with various excuses.

Mr. Lin claimed, “Ivy Chen’s father gambles with others in the company. When he loses, he goes around borrowing money from everyone and boasts about his daughter’s achievements. He digs a deeper grave for himself by treating others to meals and boasts that his daughter gives him a red packet with a few million (Taiwanese) dollars in it. In actual fact, he’s just an empty shell. Normal people cherish their daughters’ achievements (but he doesn’t), is this what they call a celebrity’s privilege?”

It was later revealed that Ivy and her father are not on close terms, and she also revealed that he has once done something untoward against her family. After hearing the news about the incident, however, the artiste has stepped forward to say, “I’ll try to understand the situation and will do my best to help (him).”
