Ivy Chen calls it quits with boyfriend of three years

Taiwanese actress Ivy Chen has reportedly broken up with her boyfriend of three years, hairstylist Tom, as the 35-year-old was too caught up in her work, driving a rift in their relationship.

The lovebirds have always had a tumultuous relationship. Back in 2014, when their relationship was first revealed, Ivy was reported to have unwittingly become the third party in Tom’s relationship with his ex-girlfriend. At that point, the couple split for a couple of months, before getting back together a while later. After that, reports alleged that Tom was physically abusing Ivy, with the actress denying the reports. In recent days, Ivy and Tom’s relationship appeared to have stabilised, with Ivy declaring that if Tom were to propose to her, she’d accept his proposal immediately.

But, according to an insider, the lovebirds have since broken up. Ivy has been busy with her directorial debut, and is constantly settling matters related to it. As the project isn’t going too well at the moment, the actress naturally turned to Tom to act as her emotional “punching bag”.

Additionally, as Tom often needs to travel overseas together with his celebrity clients for work, the couple rarely gets to meet, even when they’re both in Taipei. Eventually, the couple drifted apart, and they decided to call it quits.

Netizens also uncovered an old post from Ivy, where she lamented, “I think, people get too comfortable sometimes, so they wish to inflict suffering upon themselves. Actually, being in a relationship is [similar to that]. Life is never smooth-sailing [anyway].” The melancholic post had netizens presuming that the actress was lamenting on the struggles in her relationship.
