Taiwanese Host Iris Tseng Scared To Turn On Heater In London After Incurring S$900 Electricity Bill In A Month
The star moved to London after her marriage to her English diplomat beau in 2017, but is clearly still having a hard time adjusting to the cold.
Taiwanese host Iris Tseng aka Ai Li Si (艾莉丝), 43, tied the knot with her English diplomat beau in 2017.
The couple now live in London with their four-year-old son Caius, and Iris’ nine-year-old daughter, Lily, from her previous marriage to Japanese DJ Rui Araki.
One thing we do know about London weather is that it can be really cold and wet. And it seems like Iris shares the same sentiments.
The host recently shared a photo of her electricity bill, expressing her shock at how she managed to incur a £569 (S$909) bill in a month.
Turns out, she had a hard time getting used to the cold weather in London, and often kept the heater running at home.
She revealed that the amount was 10 times higher than what she pays regularly, and there was already a £200 (S$319) government subsidy.
She also added that electricity bills in England had increased due to “war, inflation, and a shortage of energy resources”.
Iris’ husband also commented that their hefty bill was a result of her “trying to make their house as warm as the normal room temperature in Taiwan”.
In response, Iris said: “My dear, do you know? The feeling of being woke up in the middle of the night due to the minus five degrees cold. I really hate it, [and it makes me] want to book a plane ticket back to Taiwan immediately. You wouldn’t gain anything if I froze to death, right?”
Dramatic spiel aside, Iris admitted that she doesn’t dare turn on the heater on a whim anymore. Now, she only turns it on before going to bed.
She also bought an electric blanket to keep herself warm. “As a result, I’m now constantly lying under the electric blanket on the bed, and I hardly move at all,” she revealed.
