How far would you go to convince your wife or girlfriend to watch one of your favourite sports tournaments?

Jon Liddell, husband of Malaysian content creator Jenn Chia, dressed up as a character from Stephen Chow’s Kungfu Hustle.

Jenn, 32, recently shared on Instagram that she and Jon, a UK-born, Malaysia-raised singer-songwriter, attended the Hong Kong Sevens rugby tournament last weekend.

Admitting she was clueless about rugby — describing it as “like football, then use the hand and touch the butt” — the influencer initially considered turning down the invitation from the tournament’s organiser, Cathay Pacific.

But for Jon, 33, a rugby enthusiast who last attended the Hong Kong Sevens 15 years ago, this was a golden opportunity. And he was determined for Jenn to experience the excitement for herself.

Jenn eventually agreed on one condition: they would dress up as the “most iconic Hong Kong couple” — Bao Zou Po and Bao Zou Gong, inspired by Yuen Qiu's chain-smoking Landlady character and her husband from Kungfu Hustle.

(Fun fact: Jenn is a huge Stephen Chow fan and even had the chance to have a meal with the movie legend in Hong Kong in 2023.)

For the game, Jon shaved off his beard, donned hair clips and pyjamas, while Jenn sported a white nightgown and hair rollers. She even dangled a cigarette from her lips to complete her Landlady look.

While Jon lamented that the experience was “so embarrassing,” Jenn found it “[so] funny!”

“The good thing is, a lot of people were dressing up too, so I felt weirdly accepted,” Jon admitted with a chuckle.

To their surprise, many people immediately recognised their get-ups, calling out “Bao Zou Po” (landlady in Cantonese) the moment they spotted Jenn.

Their get-ups were such a hit that the couple were voted Best Dressed at the game.

"I'll plan something ridiculous to celebrate this, stay tuned," shared Jenn on Instagram Story, adding that they'd won by more than 9,000 votes.

We'll be keeping our eyes peeled for that.

How could anyone not know who they were?
