Influencer Filmed Wife In Labour & Her Severe Postpartum Bleeding; Gets Banned On Social Media Amid Backlash
The video he posted even included sponsored ads.
A Chinese influencer is facing intense online backlash after filming his wife in labour — all 23 hours of the process.
During the painful ordeal, the woman suffered a third-degree tear and lost up to 3,344ml of blood in a severe postpartum hemorrhage. Thankfully, both mother and baby survived after emergency surgery and blood transfusions.
You might wonder what her husband, known by the handle “Paul in the United States” (保罗在美国), was doing during this critical moment.
According to reports, he kept filming even as his wife asked him to stop. To make matters worse, the video later featured sponsored content, including a diaper advertisement.
Unsurprisingly, Paul’s actions sparked outrage online, drawing widespread criticism and backlash.
Many were alarmed by the video’s graphic content, and felt that Paul’s “overly real” documentation of the medical procedures exploited his wife’s privacy. Netizens quickly called on him to issue an apology.
As the video went viral, Chinese social media platform Weibo also faced growing user backlash. On Feb 11, they placed a ban on Paul, citing violations of laws, regulations, and platform policies.
Paul subsequently deleted the video but still has not formally apologised or addressed his actions.
Netizens condemned him for using his wife’s suffering for views. Some expressed sympathy for his her, saying that “there was not a trace of love” in what Paul was doing, while others questioned how he could continue filming when she was “losing 70 per cent of the blood in her body”.
“People these days will do anything for views,” wrote a commenter, while another simply stated: “Disgusting”.
