Huang Zitao Used Ginger On Bald Spot To Regrow Hair — And It Backfired Badly
Former EXO member Huang Zitao recently found himself trending online after he temporarily paused filming a variety show due to breathing difficulties.
There were also rumours that he was going bald... They were somewhat true, though.
The 32-year-old decided to set the record straight via a livestream to clear the air.
“Can you believe what’s online? How could I possibly be bald!” he said, showing off his thick locks.
That said, the ‘Mask’ singer did admit he experienced alopecia areata, a form of localised hair loss, or spot baldness, on the right side of his head.
It was due to rapid weight loss and aggressive cutting carbs during a stressful work period.
Thing took a comedic turn when he shared that his mother suggested a home remedy: ginger slices. She claimed it would regrow hair overnight and applied a couple of pieces to his balding spots.
However, Zitao found that the areas where ginger slices were applied worsened.
“Not a single hair was left. The more I rubbed, the balder I became,” he laughed. “Never apply ginger like that!”
According to PubMed Central, applying ginger slices or juice can potentially inhibit hair growth rather than promote it
The experience took a real emotional toll on Zitao.
He revealed that he broke down over it and even cried in front of his wife, Chinese singer-actress Xu Yiyang.
Zitao also avoided public appearances out of embarrassment and worried constantly on set that hairspray might fail him and expose the bald patches mid-shoot.
Thankfully, his hair gradually grew back over several months after seeking proper medical treatment.
