Huang Xiaoming Boasts That He’s Good At Taking Care Of Kids; Netizens Think He Has No Right To Say That

Things seem to be going swimmingly well for Chinese actor Huang Xiaoming this year.

The 44-year-old has two dramas — The Lurker and Rose War — set to air later this year, and his new movie Ode to the Spring hits theatres across China on July 1.

In the film, set in Wuhan in the early days of the COVID-19 outbreak, Xiaoming plays a father who has to look after his son alone while his doctor wife is on the frontlines fighting the pandemic.

In a promotional clip for Ode to the Spring, Xiaoming, who has a five-year-old son nicknamed “Little Sponge” with ex-wife, actress Angelababy, shared filming anecdotes and how he drew on his fatherhood experience for the role.

Angelababy and Xiaoming, who tied the knot in 2015, announced their divorce in January this year. The couple said they will be co-parenting Little Sponge.

Of his experience filming the movie, he said: "I play a father and because I have a kid of my own, I am very aware of the awkwardness and helplessness of taking care of kids. You have to go along with their mood."

He added that he got along very well with the young actor who plays his onscreen son, and even boasted that he has a way with children.

Not unusual words for a father, right?

However, netizens were not pleased with Xiaoming's remarks and criticised him for “taking credit” for bringing up his son. 

Word has it that the star has not been able to be with his son as often due to his busy schedule. 

One netizen quipped: “Isn’t Angelababy the one taking care of the child?” Others chimed in with comments like “What experience do you have?” and "I don’t think I have ever seen you take care of children”.

There were also sarcastic netizens who said that Xiaoming was able to nail the role due to his “acting skills” and that he is a “good actor”.
