Taiwanese Singer Huang Shao-Ku Now Works As A Taxi Driver To Support His Family
He found himself saddled with debt after his band went on an indefinite hiatus in 2017.
If you’re a fan of Mayday or Chinese rock music in general, you would have heard of Champion Band (强辩乐团) and its lead singer, ‘Shao Shao’ aka Huang Shao-Ku.
The 40-year-old is also the cousin of Mayday's Monster Wen Shang Yi.
In 2009, Shao-Ku also ventured into acting, earning new fans after appearing in Taiwanese idol drama K.O.3an Guo.
Shao-Ku later invested money into music production, but when his band unexpectedly went into an indefinite hiatus in early 2017, he found himself saddled with a large debt.
Although it is unknown if Shao-Ku has managed to pay off his debts, the singer recently revealed that he now works as a taxi driver to support his family and that he earns around S$1262 a month.
Shao-Ku married former Weather Girls member Yumi Lin, 38, in 2020, and they have a son together.
However, according to Shao-Ku’s social media posts, business hasn't exactly been thriving.
Sharing a picture of himself driving late into the night, Shao-Ku wrote: “I’ll work as much as I can. I never thought of myself as someone who is superior to others, I’m just like anyone else, I need to survive! We are all normal people!"
His post quickly went viral, with many netizens leaving comments to cheer him on.
Shao-Ku has since shared another post on Facebook, this time to thank those who’ve sent him words of encouragement.
“Many people are having it harder than me. There are delivery men and policemen who work super hard, and also other taxi drivers, public transport drivers, the medical staff who work on the front lines,..... (There’s too many),” wrote Shao-Ku.
He also acknowledged those in the construction and customer service field, saying that all these people are the “real heroes of society”.
