Hongkong Star Shirley Yeung Doesn’t Regret Being A Single Mum; Says She Became A “Superwoman” After Having A Kid

Three years later, she made her showbiz comeback, and last October, she dropped another bombshell — she had married her boyfriend, who is not in showbiz, earlier that year, and was four months pregnant. In February this year, Shirley gave birth to a baby boy.

Recently, she made an appearance on talkshow Courageously, where she shared more about her past relationships, and how it has shaped her view on love.

Shirley admitted that when she was faced with the barrage of negative reports and rumours in 2011, she approached it with a “self-deprecating” attitude.

“I don’t think that it was a wrong decision, there’s no right or wrong when it comes to relationships. It may be that my journey to find love wasn’t that smooth-sailing. But I wouldn’t limit myself, [saying that] I can’t do anything just because I’m a single parent. I can still have a good family, [and] do the things I like. I won’t let the words of others drown me. After becoming a mother, I became a superwoman. My first priority is to take care of my child, everything else became unimportant,” she said.

She laughingly described giving birth as “the most courageous thing [she has] done in [her] life”, saying: “In the past, I was super weak, afraid of pain and cowardly. My mum was so worried that I would not be able to handle giving birth. But I still managed to do this courageous act twice. So everyone can overcome their fears, as long as you have courage.”

Now that she’s found love, Shirley wants to use her life experiences to encourage other single parents to never give up, and love courageously.

“If you believe in love, it might be waiting for you around the corner. In this forest, you might get lost sometimes, but as long as you’re patient, you’ll find the exit,” she said, making reference to her 2019 single, ‘Forest of Love’.

“[This was how] I got to know my husband as well, it was a fateful meeting. After giving birth to my first child, I dove back into my work. Later, I began to wonder if it was the right time [to meet someone new], and I eventually met the person who’s most suited for me,” she said.
