Hongkong singer Shirley Kwan is retiring from showbiz. The 53-year-old announced the news via her socials on March 5, bidding goodbye to her life in the spotlight.

Best known as the voice behind the 1989 Cantopop hit, ‘Happy Are Those In Love’, Shirley went on a hiatus in the late ‘90s. In 2002, she gave birth to her son, whose dad is a religious teacher from Bhutan, before making her comeback in 2005.

In 2018, Shirley signed a contract with Universal Music, but their working relationship was fraught with tension. The singer’s 25th anniversary concert at the Hong Kong Coliseum reportedly caused their relationship to worsen. Things got so bad, she vowed on social media that she would “never trust” the company again.
