Hong Kong film director Teddy Chan, 64, is known for his movies such as Downtown Torpedoes (1998), The Accidental Spy (2001), and Bodyguards and Assassins (2009).

He recently released his first autobiography ‘Leave Your Sorrows To The Movies’, in which he documented his journey to becoming an established director.

Teddy was first exposed to the world of cinema when he got a job as Jackie Chan’s assistant at 18.

At that time, he was considered Jackie’s right hand man, and enjoyed the benefits that came along with the job, like having people offer to clean his shoes should they get dirty.

However, those good times didn't last and Teddy revealed that Jackie "hated" him for a period of time.

It started when Teddy quit the job to focus on his directing career.

He did not know that by doing that, he would anger the martial arts star so badly, the latter would go on to give him a “black face” whenever they bumped into each other at events.

They did not talk to each other for 20 years, until Jackie starred in his movie The Accidental Spy. It was only then that Teddy got the chance to speak to Jackie again and resolve their conflict.

Teddy would later find out from a friend that Jackie gave him the cold shoulder because in his 30 years of showbiz, he was the one who did the firing and "no one dared to quit on him".

After the two made up, Jackie resumed being “big brother” to Teddy and even wrote the prologue for his autobiography.
