HK Actress Sara Lee Now A Funeral Director After 3 Family Members Died In A Span Of 3 Years
She said that her acting experience has helped her when it comes to consulting with the family members of the recently deceased.
Hong Kong singer-actress Sara Lee (李麗蕊), who is best known for her role in the 1989 movie, School On Fire, which bagged her a Best Supporting Actress award, is now a funeral director.
According to reports, the 55-year-old had to say goodbye to three family members — her older sister, her aunt and her dad —in the last three years, an experience that left her helpless and frightened.
“When facing death, the helplessness and panic that you feel is something that outsiders can never understand,” Sara shared in a post by Facebook page Forget Thee Not, which organises environmentally-friendly funerals and aids family members of the recently deceased.
Sara went on to share that she was able to work through her grief after losing her family members thanks to Forget Thee Not. Therefore, she has decided to join the organisation as a funeral director, after first volunteering with them.
However, this doesn’t mean that she’s leaving showbiz behind. Sara is still active as one of the three hosts for Radio Television Hong Kong’s weekday radio show, Feng Show Kuai Huo Ren.
Apart from her hosting duties, Sara revealed that she has been part of a number of funeral processions in recent years, both as a mourner and as a funeral director.
This experience has helped her to understand that death is something that is always around us, and that the best thing that we can do is to prepare ourselves well for its arrival.
She also shared that her acting experience has helped her quickly switch from hosting her upbeat radio show, to consulting with the family members of the recently deceased.
“In the past, after shooting comedic scenes, we had to immediately film emotional scenes after that, so when I host funerals, I’m able to immediately switch up my emotions,” she said.
On the topic of funerals, Sara said she believes that only after making sure that the arrangements for one’s final farewell are properly arranged, then can we start to enjoy life to its fullest, while reaching out a helping hand to others.
“I have to live every second of my life well, so that I can be worthy of [carrying on the wishes] of my dearly departed loved ones,” she said.
