Harris Chan, CEO and heir of Moiselle Group, has been a prominent figure in Hong Kong’s fashion industry for decades.

Yet in recent years, the now 38-year-old has disappeared from the public eye, sparking rumours that he'd either undergone a failed cosmetic surgery or had business troubles, while others claimed that he was disfigured in a car accident.

And Harris is now finally ready to address those speculations.

He was on his way to take a high-speed rail in Shenzhen in August 2023 when he met with an accident.

“I was alighting from the car and opened the door without looking. Right as I opened it, an electric cart crashed straight into me," he recalled.

"The door and I were both slammed back and I hit my head really hard. There weren’t many visible injuries at first, but it was badly bruised, swollen, and painful."

Even though he was disoriented, Harris was still thinking of "rushing to catch the [next] high-speed train".

He described the impact as feeling like he smashed into a glass door.

As the swelling subsided over time, Harris' face started to bruise. The bruises eventually faded by December, some four months after the accident, but new problems emerged.

“My nose was crooked, and the cheekbone on the left side of my face was gone. That’s when I started seeking medical help," said Harris.

He went on to spend six months consulting specialists across Mainland China, Hong Kong, South Korea, Singapore, and Taiwan, and the journey was frustrating and filled with uncertainty.

His reconstruction journey involved a lead surgeon, two assistant doctors, and an anaesthetist, with each procedure addressing different aspects of his injuries. He also consulted at least ten surgeons before finding the right team.

In total, over the past two years, Harris has had around 10 hospital visits and six major and minor surgeries as part of his treatment.

The total medical expenses ultimately exceeded HK$2 million (S$330K).

There were at times setbacks in his recovery journey, which greatly troubled him and his family.

His mother also insisted that he stop working to focus on his health. “She told me, ‘The priority right now is you. Everything else can wait."

Thankfully, Harris' health and facial structure have been fully "rebuilt" and are in a stable condition. He also felt that he has recovered about 80 per cent of his former appearance.

His hearing was fortunately also not affected.

“The doctors said flying, exercising, and laughing are all fine. The only lingering issue is that it’s a bit difficult to open my mouth wide,” he said.

He's now just embracing the new chapter in his life.

After three years away from the spotlight, Harris recently also hosted a grand birthday party (Oct 4) with his family and friends such as Hong Kong stars Rosamund Kwan, Gigi Lai and Karl Ting.

Reflecting on his journey, Harris said: “Ha, it’s OK now, it’s better when you look back on it. It’s all in the past, and when you talk about it after the fact, it feels better".

"During the process, I was lost. I saw so many doctors, one was called a miracle doctor then the other was said to be amazing," he added.
