Gillian Chung,44, Admits To Having Body Dysmorphia; Losing Weight For Roles Becoming More Challenging, She Says
Hong Kong star Gillian Chung has been plagued by weight fluctuation problems for the longest time.
The 44-year-old has on many occasions gained then lost weight, only to have her weight rebound again afterwards due to hormonal imbalance.
The phrase "Gillian has put on" even became a recurring trending topic on Weibo, causing her a great amount of stress.
Recently, the actress had to shed a significant amount of weight yet again for her role as a cancer patient in new Hong Kong movie Good Goodbye.
She then shared in an interview that the most challenging part about the role was having to slim down so that she could resemble a terminally ill person.
"As I'm getting older and my metabolism is slowing down, losing weight really isn't easy for me," said Gillian.
She then admitted: "I am not insecure about my looks but I have body dysmorphia".
Many netizens have shown support towards Gillian and her appearance anxiety ever since the video went viral.
"Gillian has been plump or thin, but she's never been ugly," averred one fan. Another also reminded the star that she "doesn't have to be stick thin" and that "the most important is to stay healthy".
"Thank you for sharing about your anxiety, turns out celebrities are just like us," wrote a netizen.
