Gender Reveal Party Gone Wrong: M’sian Comedian & Wife Celebrated A Baby Girl, Only To Later Find Out They’re Having A Boy

Gender reveal parties have become quite the event and milestone for expectant couples. But what happens when the baby’s gender is… mistakenly revealed at the soiree?

Just ask Malaysian stand-up comedian Lucas Lee and his wife, Janny.

Lucas shared a video on Instagram of their gender reveal party, where they had celebrated what they thought was going to be a baby girl. But he also had a tongue-in-cheek warning: “Everyone, don’t do a gender reveal party.”

It turns out the initial blood test report had indicated that their baby was a girl. However, at a subsequent appointment with their gynaecologist, the ultrasound clearly showed they are actually having a baby boy.

In the background, the doctor even joked: “Don’t buy the wrong clothes.” Janny laughed uncontrollably as she added: “He’s telling us he is male.”

In his caption, Lucas elaborated: “After our gender reveal, we were fully convinced we were having a girl! But during a later ultrasound scan, we suddenly saw a ‘little surprise’ and were completely shocked. We immediately went for another blood test…”

The updated chromosome test later confirmed they were expecting a boy. Their gynaecologist also explained that while gender test errors can happen, they are very rare.

Lucas added that the unusual mix-up made their experience feel “almost like a comedy of errors”.

He also included a gentle reminder to other expecting parents, penning: “It might be best to double-check with an ultrasound before planning a gender reveal party!”

When 8days.sg reached out to Lucas, he shared: “We just wanted a healthy baby, though I did secretly think a daughter might be a bit more well-behaved.”

At the end of the day, the couple are simply relieved that their baby is healthy and doing well, which is what matters most to them.

After coming to terms with the mix-up, Lucas and Janny even joked that comedy might already be in their baby’s genes. “We’ve realised that our kid is a natural-born comedian, a very funny kid,” he added.

And if you’re wondering whether they plan to redo the gender reveal, the answer is no. Lucas, who had sweetly gifted Janny a pink Rolex during the party, quipped: “I definitely don’t have the budget to buy a second blue Rolex.”
