Gary Chaw Admits He And Wife Are "In The Middle Of A Cold War"; Says He's Not Sure If They Can Spend The Rest Of Their Lives Together

Oh man.
Gary Chaw Admits He And Wife Are "In The Middle Of A Cold War"; Says He's Not Sure If They Can Spend The Rest Of Their Lives Together

Malaysian singer Gary Chaw's 14-year marriage with his wife, Taiwanese fashion blogger Wu Shuling, has been plagued with separation rumours for the longest time (Remember how he accused Taiwanese host Lan Hsin-Mei of "taking [his] wife out" to meet guys?)

While his manager did claim that things were still "very good" between the couple last year, Gary, 44, recently admitted that he and Shuling are indeed not speaking to each other.

He has nothing to hide

During the press conference for his Crazy For LIVE concert, which is happening in Genting on Nov 12, Gary shared that his family would not be flying over from Taiwan to support his show.

"My son has a soccer match that day, and my wife and I are in the middle of a cold war," he said.

Though Gary refused to divulge more, when asked if the feud started after March this year, which was when the singer was filmed hurling vulgarities at other diners at a restaurant, and whether he had tried to salvage the situation, Gary said they're trying.

He then added: "This is after all between [us] husband and wife, so it's not convenient to disclose to others."

He also said he doesn't dare promise that he and his wife will spend the rest of their lives together, but they're certain they would try their best to not hurt their children, Joe, 14, and Grace, 11.

He does urge others to give him some space though

Previously, when Gary announced he'd be holding a concert, a netizen rudely asked if he would perform drunk during the show, a reference to the singer's issues with alcohol.

At that time, Gary graciously replied to said netizen that he'd have to buy tickets to find out.

When asked if he's bothered by such comments, Gary said: "Things like that I would reply, but if they keep attacking my marriage, that's personal. What does it have to do with you? People should have more empathy. I get upset too and I need some space."

He also said he wouldn't be able to take it when too many people attack him online.

"Actually I do understand how these netizens think, it's just that I'm bad tempered, and can be quite rash at times. While I'm trying to overcome my depression, I try my best to live well, but sometimes I inevitably lose control."

It was a really dark period for him

According to Gary, who revealed he lost four loved ones during the pandemic, 2021 was the "most painful period" for him.

He shared that he was under lots of medication and the side effects made him very lethargic. He then ended up hiding at home most of the time.

He tried to stop taking medication, but it was too painful for him to do so.

Gary also said he actually told his managers that he would not be chatting about his family, children or the restaurant scandal during the press conference.

However, he eventually brought up the restaurant incident, revealing that he wasn't drunk then. Instead, he had only drank "chicken soup" when the incident happened.

"The doctor told me to drink only once every two months, but the news reported that I was causing a scene because I was drunk. That's not fair to me. I've been sick for so long but no one talked about that. Is it just because I'm Gary Chaw?" he lamented.
