G-Dragon Earns $18,000 A Day From His New Café In Jeju Island

GD’s café, Untitled, 2017, is named after one of his songs ‘Untitled, 2014’. Doesn’t the building’s exterior look like a grand piano?

But really, the café is designed to resemble an overlap of the letters G and D — G-Dragon’s initials. How K-ool is that?

A look inside the 228sqm GD café, which features two gigantic rose sculptures — one red, one yellow — hanging from the ceiling. The store’s interior was designed by G-Dragon and his fashion brand PEACEMINUSONE. The singer also added his personal touch in the form of in-store doodles.

Besides having coffee and cake from a GD-curated menu, you can also compare palm sizes with the star (with the cast of his handprint created just two days before his enlistment). This well, One of a Kind café is situated within YG Republique, a mega complex in JSW run by BigBang’s agency, YG Entertainment which has boutiques and restaurants, as well as a GD-owned bowling club AC.III.T (pronounced ACT) Bowling & Pub.

Droves of fans from all around the world make a pilgrimage to this GD café every day. So are we surprised that the BigBang member is raking in the big bucks from his café? Of course not. According to the staff, the café rakes in profits of up to 15 million won (S$18,750) per day. Given the overwhelming success of his café, will G-Dragon open more cafes in future? After all, one cannot have too many F&B outlets, right? Just ask Ramen King Seungri.

You can now do so (well, sorta) by buying merch designed by the singer himself. Goods on sale range from tumblers and pins, to mugs and more.

GD also played a part in the planning and designing of his bowling pub, AC.III.T,, that opened in March. No word so far on how much moolah this one rakes in.

GD made a rare public appearance, alongside YG CEO Yang Hyun Suk (far left) days before his enlistment at the grand opening ceremony of his new cafe. “Rather than it being a ‘GD café’, I hope it’ll be a place where you can always come to visit and rest comfortably,” he said.

G-Dragon used to own Monsant De Aewol which is also an architectural wonder on Jeju Island. The defining feature of this café is the huge glass windows which gives an awesome view of the sea. The singer started running the coffee shop in Oct 2015, but sold the venue at the end of 2017. Last Oct, his café made the news when a visitor wrote a post online saying that he broke the chandelier in G-Dragon’s cafe which costs a whopping 300mil won (S$370,000). The blogger wrote that he expected to get off scot-free but GD had asked him to pay 400,000 won (S$500) worth of repairs while the singer himself would settle the rest of the bill. Netizens slammed the writer for being ungrateful. However, GD’s agency later clarified that the incident “is completely irrelevant” to the singer. “G-Dragon’s personal art collection that was exhibited in the café were removed a long time ago when he sold the café,” his agency said in a statement.
