Since retiring from showbiz a decade ago, Hongkong star Gigi Lai might have largely vanished from the limelight. But thank god for friends. Recently, her biz pal, Ye Ying, shared a series of pics of Gigi with her hubby and three daughters dressed in identical-looking white dresses (#tripliting!) at a biz gathering. In 2008, the 46-year-old former actress married billionaire businessman Patrick Ma Ting Kung. The couple now has three daughters, twin girls, Pricia and Gianna, seven, and a third daughter, Pegella, five.

It’s all in the genes
From these pics, one can see that Gigi’s daughters have inherited their mum’s bushy brows and big eyes, though they bear a stronger resemblance to dad.

Lai and mighty
The former TVB actress, whose swan song was 2008’s hit TVB drama The Gem of Life, didn’t retire from acting to live the tai-tai life. She decided to leave showbiz so she could take care of her younger brother, Stephen, who became wheelchair-bound after a near-fatal car accident in 2007. She also took over the running of his cosmetics biz, CosMax. Nicknamed “Goddess of Beauty” by the Hongkong press, Gigi’s business endeavour has earned her the title of “Most Beautiful CEO”.
But her beauty is more than skin deep. After a decade calling the shots as the CEO of her brother’s aesthetic clinic, Gigi’s hard work came to fruition this year when the parent company of CosMax, Miricor Enterprises Holdings Limited, became a publicly listed company. Miricor's success reportedly boosted Gigi and her family’s wealth from HKD$204 million (S$35 mil) to HKD$1.1 billion (S$190 mil). The erstwhile actress is now both the CEO and the chairwoman of Miricor. Bravo.

Beauty and the beast?
Gigi has earned praise from netizens for being both a successful #galboss and model sister for fulfilling her brother’s dreams of seeing his biz take off. One might remember how many were puzzled by the doe-eyed beauty’s decision to marry a disabled tycoon, with some using the Chinese idiom “a fresh flower stuck into a pile of cow dung” to describe their union. Well, it’s been said that Patrick’s helping to cover Gigi’s brother’s costly rehabilitation process played a huge part in him winning her over.

Kids a wonderful life
Work aside, Gigi has also been busy fulfilling mummy duties. She reportedly takes time out from her busy schedule to attend talent classes with her daughters. She has also been photographed by paparazzi on numerous occasions out and about with her kids (and her three helpers!).

In her Weibo post, Gigi’s pal, Ye Ying, also wrote, “Gigi’s beauty lies in her inner beauty. To be honest, during Gigi’s popular days, I was busy with work and I’ve never seen her work. She dated my sworn brother [Patrick Ma] in secret for eight years. After marriage, she took on the burden of fulfilling her brother’s dream, studying hard and being sincere and dedicated. Being in close contact with her, I witnessed her doing her best to be a good wife and mother.”
She added: “Her grandfather, Lai Man Wai, is the Father of Chinese Cinema. But during her childhood days, her family was not well-to-do. At the age of 14, she started working to support her family and to pay for her brother’s university fees. She’s beautiful!”
