Former T-ARA Member Areum, 29, Reportedly Hospitalised After Suicide Attempt
Former member of K-pop group T-ARA Han Areum, 29, has reportedly been rushed to hospital following an alleged suicide attempt early Wednesday morning (Mar 27).
Korean media OSEN reported that Areum had left a message similar to a will before attempting to take her own life at home.
It is understood that she is currently receiving treatment.
Her boyfriend has taken to Instagram Stories to share an update, saying she has yet to regain consciousness.
He also thanked fans for their support for Areum and to pray that she will be okay.
The news comes just days after the former idol revealed the physical and emotional abuse she had been subjected to during her four-year-marriage with 31-year-old businessman Kim Young Gul.
The pair, who have two sons aged four and one, have been engaged in a divorce lawsuit since December last year.
In a lengthy Instagram post, she claimed Young Gul had never offered her any financial support during their marriage, save for two or three occasions.
He would get upset over her purchases of necessities like vitamins for their kids which later escalated to physical assault towards her in front of their children.
She also shared photos of her injuries from the abuse.
Areum recounted an incident in November 2021 when Young Gul lost his temper, ripped her clothes off, choked her and threatened to kill her in front of their child.
"He beat me enough to give me bruises around my nose. He also punched the soles of my feet, so I couldn't walk for a while,” she said.
Despite the abuse, Areum said she tried to make their marriage work and the couple appeared on the variety show Caught Between Marriage & Divorce in 2022.
In December 2023, Areum announced that they had split and that she would marry her new boyfriend as soon as the divorce is finalised.
