Former Actor Joshua Ang Just Got Married And He’s Going To Be A Dad

Former Ch 8 actor Joshua Ang is not only married now, he's also going to be a father.

The 29-year-old, who shot to fame after starring in Jack Neo’s hit movie I Not Stupid (2002), shared exclusively with 8 DAYS that his wife, air stewardess Shannon Low, 27, is expecting.

“We're still in the early stages of the pregnancy, but everything's pretty normal so far,” he says. “But of course, I'm doing my part to take good care of her. I will make sure she has the emotional support she needs throughout this journey and that all her cravings are satisfied.”

The couple got hitched at a beach wedding held at Shangri-La's Rasa Sentosa Resort & Spa last Saturday (Mar 3).

They spent close to $50,000 on the nuptials, which saw a total of 180 guests in attendance, including his former I Not Stupid co-star Shawn Lee.

Joshua, who left showbiz in 2012, is now working in sales for a liquor company. He met Shannon two years ago when he was studying part-time for a Banking and Finance degree in Murdoch University.

Besides I Not Stupid, Joshua also starred in several Ch 8 shows like long-form drama Your Hand In Mine (2009-2010), Table of Glory (2009) and Unriddle (2010), as well as local movies Homerun (2003) and Timeless Love (2012).

On his soon-to-be father status, Joshua says: “I was very happy when I found out that I was going to be a dad. We’re guessing it’s a boy and have even thought of a couple of names for the baby (laughs).”

He adds: “We’re worried about our finances as raising a kid can be financially taxing, but of course, we will do our best for our child. And you know what, we’re definitely not stopping at one!”

8 DAYS: Congrats on the good news! You must be very tired from all the wedding festivities.
JOSHUA ANG: Yes, in fact both my wife and I fell sick after the wedding. It’s probably from the lack of sleep and the erratic weather. Our day started at 6.30am and lasted till 1am that night. Nobody told me that a wedding would that tiring!

You told us previously that you were going to perform at your wedding. How did that go?
I think it went pretty okay. I had a live band for the night, and I performed Ed Sheeran's ‘Perfect’ and Elvis Presley's ‘Can’t Help Falling In Love’, which I also played on the guitar. I also performed Bruno Mars' ‘Rest Of My Life’ while playing the piano. Even though I was quite tipsy while I was playing the piano, my friends and my wife couldn’t tell (laughs).

We see from the photos that you had a Volkswagen Beetle and a Volkswagen Kombi as part of your wedding car entourage.
Yeah. Both Shannon and I love old school vehicles. We dream of owning one and travelling the world, or at least taking a road trip in one in the future. So we thought renting them for our wedding would be perfect.

What was the most memorable part of your wedding?
The solemnisation, the wedding videos and the fireworks were very memorable for us. We didn’t expect to cry while saying our vows, but both of us did. We also prepared a special thank you video for our parents, and our families and friends ended up crying when we played it during the dinner. It was very touching.

We also saw that you had fireworks at your wedding.
We were very lucky to have fireworks, but I don’t want to go into details of how we made it happen. I believe our guests were very surprised. Everyone told us that it made our wedding night so magical and memorable.

Will you still be going on a honeymoon now that your wife is pregnant?
Yes, we are planning for a trip to Japan, but it will probably happen only in April as we need to settle some important stuff here first. We will travel more before my wife’s tummy gets too big! (Laughs)
