Filming 'Jealousy Incarnate' was embarrassing at times: Ko Kyung Pyo
The actor dished on his ideal type, hopes for the new year and life after Reply 1988

It’s been two years since the hit series Reply 1988, but the after-effects of the drama is still apparent today.
For Korean actor Ko Kyung Pyo, who played student council president Sung Sunwoo in the drama, Reply 1988 has not only given him the opportunity to “act in different drama roles”, but strong bonds with his fellow co-stars as well.
The '1988' quintet, comprising of actors Park Bo Gum, Lee Dong Hwi, Ryu Jun Yeol, Ko Kyung Pyo and idol actress Hyeri from Girl’s Day, still have a group chat that they chat on from time to time, although their busy schedules prevents them from meeting up.
Kyung Pyo, who was in town for a private fanmeet session, also shared at a press conference that the roles he had before Reply 1988 were more comical and immature. Now, the 26-year-old seems to have moved on to ‘perfect suitor’ roles, having played a third-generation rich heir Go Jungwon in his latest drama, Jealousy Incarnate.
However, it seems like the actor is nothing like the suave, heart-fluttering character that he portrayed and Kyung Pyo revealed that there were even moments where he’d cringe at his own character’s actions while filming.
“[In the drama], there’s a scene where I’ll meet the female lead [Korean actress Gong Hyo Jin] on her way to work. As I was filming the scene, I realised that it was a very embarrassing scene. However, I realised that many people loved that scene after it aired,” Kyung Pyo shared.
He later explained that there was a lot of times where he had to “act cool” for prolonged periods of time during filming, making him feel embarrassed.
So is he as cool as Jungwon? "I'll leave it up to your imaginations," he teasingly replied.

What are Ko Kyung Pyo's plans for 2017?
Kyung Pyo described himself as someone who will put his words into actions when it comes to real-life romances and is a "meticulous person" who knows how to have fun when out with friends. To him, cooking for his loved ones is the most romantic thing he will do," he said.
“When I’m alone though, I’m more of a tidy person. I’ll go mountain climbing, and listen to music that’s more calm and soothing,” the actor shared.
When asked to recommend a song to fans, the actor picked 'Your Night' by Dynamic Duo’s Gaeko and ZE:A’s Kwanghee, which was created as part of Korean variety show Infinite Challenge’s project, where the cast members had to make songs based on Korean history.
“My friend Oh Hyuk featured on the song [as well], and I’m very happy for him,” he said.
So what can fans expect from Kyung Pyo in 2017?
The actor let in that he “might be embarking on another project in the first half of this year”, though he stopped short of giving any details, as nothing was confirmed yet.
He also "looks forward to a busy year" and hopes to “quickly go back to making more dramas and continue on to the fullest potential of my acting skills."

A character that you feel you’re similar to?
I don’t feel that any of the roles I’ve taken so far are very similar to me. But, the closest one would be Sunwoo from Reply 1988.
Any variety show that you hope to appear in?
I feel that I don’t have the talent for variety shows. However, there is a talkshow called Life Bar by tvN, where guests drink and chat with the hosts, and I hope to appear on the show.
Both your onscreen love interests in Reply 1988 and Jealousy Incarnate are both very strong-headed women. Are they similar to your ideal type in real life?
Yes, I like women with a strong front, who speaks for herself, and knows what she’s doing. Someone who knows how to love herself, and speaks for herself. So yes, my ideal type is very similar to them.
Do you have any plans to branch out into doing theatre plays or musicals?
Musicals would be tough for me due to my singing skills, but if there’s a chance I’d really like to try acting in a theatre play.
Any plans for the Lunar New Year?
As it’s a public holiday in Korea, I’ll like to take the opportunity to spend more time with my family, as I don’t live with them currently.
Is there anything that you’re looking forward to doing in Singapore?
One of my cousins actually lives in Singapore. If I had more time, I’d actually like to make plans to go out with her. I feel that it’s a very wasted trip, as I don’t have enough time to do all these things. I like swimming, and I actually wanted to go to Marina Bay Sand’s infinity pool to swim, as well as go on the Singapore Flyer, which I saw on the way here.
