Taiwanese singer and television host Fei Yu-Ching, 67, retired in 2019 after 47 years in showbiz.

Though he made the choice to step away from the spotlight, Yu-Ching is again making headlines for one really sweet reason.

Yu-Ching is known to contribute to many charities over the years, albeit in a lowkey, understated manner.

During the recent winter solstice (冬至), it was revealed that the very generous star had donated NT1mil (S$44K) to a non-profit organisation, known as the Animal Rescue Team Taiwan.

On Thursday (Dec 22), Yu-Ching left a comment on the organisation’s social media post, writing: “[I] hope to bring the stray animals some warmth during the winter solstice. It’s been hard for them too!”

Aside from that, the Kaoshiung Association of Caring for Stray Animals (KCSAA) also received the same amount from Yu-Ching yesterday.

According to Taiwan reports, the star has spent the past couple of days sending money to various organisations that benefit strays.

The total sum of donations was said to come up to NT4mil (S$175K).

Yu-Ching is known to be an animal lover. However, he does not have any pets of his own.

The singer was too heartbroken over the loss of his pet dog, and did not want to go through the same experience again.

Instead, he shows his love for animals by trying to improve the life of strays through monetary contributions every year without fail.

According to a representative from Animal Rescue Team Taiwan, Yu-Ching has been contributing to such organisations since 2014, and has already donated more than NT7mil (S$310K).

KCSAA took to their social media page last night to share more about Yu-Ching’s sweet gesture, saying that he had sent “the fur kids a present for winter solstice”.

“He has brought some warmth and hope amidst the cold. Thanks to [Yu-Ching’s] NT1mil donation, the fur kids are able to have a blissful and cozy winter solstice, with plenty of hope for the coming year,” they wrote.

In 2015, after wrapping up Teresa Teng’s memorial concert, Yu-Ching donated NT800K (S$35K) to several animal rescue organisations under a charity that was set up in Teresa’s name.
