Faye Wong’s Daughter Leah Dou Got Slapped By Zhou Xun More Than 6 Times In Her First Movie
The director asked for multiple takes of the scene so that they would get the “most natural” results.
The scene was part of the movie The Eleventh Chapter, which is also Leah’s film debut. It was filmed in 2019 but is only hitting cinemas this month. Leah received the Best Supporting Actress Award at the 2019 Beijing International Film Festival for her performance in this film, but moviegoers have only been able to watch her performance this year as The Eleventh Chapter’s big screen debut was delayed two years.

A short behind-the-scenes clip released as promotional material for the film showed Zhou Xun giving Leah a hard slap, and while the director was reviewing the footage, Leah admitted, “My face stings after [being slapped].”

Despite the pain, Leah was more than happy to accede to the director’s requests to film the scene again as he felt that Zhou Xun’s slap looked “unnatural” during the first take. He was only satisfied with the final product after over six takes, and the two actresses could finally take a break.
Netizens are full of praise for Leah, whom they say exceeded expectations for her first movie. As one netizen put it, “Some might feel that she has it easy since her mum is Faye Wong, but Leah has proven that she’s worth her salt. Not every rookie actress would accept getting slapped [so many times] without a single word of complaint.”
