Faye Wong has done it again.

One year after the “shrimp chip earrings” she wore for her CCTV Spring Festival Gala performance went viral, the Chinese pop diva has sparked another earring-buying frenzy.

When the 56-year-old took to the stage at the annual Chinese New Year eve show to perform ‘A Moment We Experienced’, fans quickly zoomed in on what was dangling from her ears – a pair of transparent teardrop earrings.

Under the stage lights, they reflected a bluish glow, prompting netizens to nickname them the “laundry pod” earrings. Yes, like those detergent capsules.

Not exactly glamorous, but that didn’t stop them from breaking the internet. Just like last year.

The statement pieces are the “Nia” water drop earrings from Danish jewellery brand Monies.

Made from transparent acrylic, the clip-on earrings, which weigh a not-so-light 36g each, retail for €240 (S$360).

Not that that would deter fans.

The earrings are now sold out on the brand’s website and available for pre-order.

The product description was also swiftly updated to read: “The Nia water drop earrings worn by Faye Wong at Spring Festival Gala.”

When your customer is Faye Wong, you update the product description overnight. No hesitation.

If this feels like déjà vu, that’s because it is. At the Spring Festival Gala last eyar, Faye’s quirky “shrimp chip earrings” — also by Monies — became the surprise accessory hit of the year.

Search traffic soared, sales spiked, and e-commerce sites wasted no time rolling out affordable dupes.

Within hours, “Faye Wong Spring Festival Gala same-style earrings” flooded online platforms, with resin dupes going for as little as 29.99 yuan (S$5.50). Most are pre-orders shipping in early March.

Reviews, of course, are mixed. Some fans gushed: “I knew her earrings would go viral again — they’re gorgeous.”

Others felt they looked heavy and would be difficult for most people to pull off.

Regardless of the praise or criticism, Faye has once again proved her fashion influence.

As one netizen perfectly summed it up: “If Faye Wong wears it, it becomes a hit.”

Now we cannot unsee it.
