Fans Of Zhao Liying Spent S$3.5mil On Billboards To Celebrate The Actress' 35th Birthday
Some fans really go all the way out to celebrate the birthdays of their idols.
Fans of Hong Kong singer Anson Lo splashed over S$174K on a cruise ship light-up and billboard display for his 26th birthday last year.
In March, Mediacorp actor Benjamin Tan's fans paid for a digital ad to be displayed at PLQ on his 29th birthday.
Then there's Chinese actress Zhao Liying's fans who really took things to a whole new level for her 35th birthday on Oct 16.
According to reports, fans of the actress put up gigantic birthday billboards for her in nine major cities, including Shanghai, Beijing, Nanjing, Qingdao, and Wuhan.
And where was Liying? She spent her birthday on the set of upcoming Chinese drama The Legend of Shen Li in Hengdian.
The digital billboards were said to have played videos of the actress 120 times a day for two consecutive days, and is estimated to have cost her fans some 17.7mil yuan (S$3.5mil).
On top of that, her official fan club also made a donation in Liying's name to 'The Plan Of Guarding Girls' campaign, which protects girls from sexual harassment, and helps educate 150 abandoned children in China on topics like sex education, physical health knowledge and protection against sexual harassment.
So much heart. (And money)
