Since then, she’s been through a lot. But Bingbing's back for real, and ready to stage her acting comeback, according to this magazine interview she did recently.
She's a girlboss now
You see, while the actress did appear in a number of red carpet events both overseas and in China, rumour has it that she has been banned from ever appearing on TV again in her home country. And she’s not exactly popular with Chinese netizens now, many of whom pepper the 38-year-old's socials with comments declaring that they never want to see her on screen again.
So Bingbing's been biding her time and focusing on her beauty brand, Fan Beauty. Meanwhile, she’s been making big bucks appearing on live stream broadcasts to sell her brand’s products, reportedly racking up 10mil yuan (S$2mil) in sales in just four minutes.
On June 3, Bingbing graced the cover of a Chinese magazine for the first time since her tax evasion scandal. In the issue, she also shared more about her future career goals, emphasising that she still sees herself as an actress, first and foremost.
Describing herself as “someone who like challenges and feeling busy”, the actress said that she likes being on the film set because of the atmosphere, and that her dream is to be able to continue acting for a long time. She then wax lyrical about the feeling of being on set, recounting the script reading sessions and when she has to block out scenes with the director and her co-stars, calling the process “full of joy”.
Bingbing's making her acting comeback
The magazine then went on to share more about Bingbing’s upcoming movie, Hollywood thriller 365, which also stars Jessica Chastain, Penélope Cruz, Lupita Nyong’o and Diane Kruger. The movie, which is set for a January 2021 theatrical release, is likely to be Bingbing’s big acting comeback.
Speaking of movies, Bingbing also shared that she particularly likes arthouse movies, and that she has always wanted to try different film genres. The actress went on to say that she wants to challenge herself, to play socially disadvantaged characters, or those who’ve gone through unique experiences, or even ordinary people with stories to tell.
Hmm, maybe she could bring her own life story to the big screen as well?
