Fala Chen Criticised For Making Her Daughter Kneel To Receive Ang Pows During CNY
Some netizens feel that kneeling is a practice that shouldn't be passed down to future generations.
Chinese-American actress Fala Chen, 40, tied the knot with her French entrepreneur beau Emmanuel Straschnov in 2019, and welcomed their daughter, Little Minnie, in February 2021.
Fala and her husband, who live in the United States, are said to place a lot of importance on Chinese culture, and as such, raise Little Minnie on respecting traditional customs.
On the first day of Chinese New Year (Jan 22), the former TVB actress posted a pic of her daughter kneeling in front of her and her husband
and receiving an ang pow.
“Happy New Year! Wishing everyone good health and prosperity this Chinese New Year!” wrote Fala in her caption.
While the actress and her husband were praised by some for making sure their kid follows tradition, there were a handful of netizens who did not agree with making a child kneel to get ang pows from their elders.
“What’s the purpose of kneeling?” asked one netizen.
Others also advised Fala to refrain from teaching Little Minnie to kneel as they believe it's a "practice that shouldn’t be passed down”.
“It’s like begging for money, don’t make kids do this,” read another comment.
