F4’s Reunion At Mayday Concert Took 2 Years Of Planning, An Emo Jerry Yan Says: “It Feels Like A Dream”
F4’s Ken Chu is just glad he doesn’t have to keep pretending that he’s not close to the rest of the guys anymore.
Taiwanese rock band Mayday pulled off the ultimate walk down memory lane at the final show of their concert tour at Taipei Dome on July 12.
The 40,000-strong audience went into a frenzy when the band unveiled their surprise guests — none other than F4’s Jerry Yan, Vic Chou, Vanness Wu and Ken Chu.
The four, who shot to superstardom in hit 2001 Taiwanese drama Meteor Garden, disbanded in 2009 and hadn’t shared the stage in 12 years.
So when they came together to perform ‘Meteor Rain’, the arena erupted in screams.
The collaboration was reportedly two years in the making, with Mayday painstakingly coordinating with all four members, who are each signed to different management agencies.
As the opening notes of ‘Meteor Rain’ played, fans instantly recognised the iconic song and went wild.
The guys, aged 44 to 48 years old, then rose dramatically from under the stage, bathed in lights, looking as youthful as ever.
Even Mayday’s Ashin couldn’t help exclaiming, “Why do you all still look the same?”
The reunion also gave fans some classic F4 banter.
When asked about their last performance together, Vanness guessed 2016, turning to Vic for confirmation, only for Vic to retort, “Why are you asking me?”
The correct answer? 2013, during Jiangsu TV’s Spring Festival Gala.
“This time machine really works,” Ashin said. “Seeing the brightest four faces step out — how does it feel?”
Ken admitted he felt a huge relief, “Finally, I don’t have to keep pretending and say, ‘I’m not close with them.’”
Vic joked, “This is my first time at a Mayday concert, and I’m standing on stage — the air feels fresher here.”
Vanness turned reflective, “This night is really something special. Thank you, Mayday, for letting us come back and sing with everyone.”
But it was Jerry who was the most emotional. Choking up, he said, “It feels like I’m dreaming. I never thought in my life I’d be standing on stage with Mayday.”
Vic teased him, “Are you about to cry? Then just cry!”
Mayday and F4 then performed 'The Song of Laughter and Forgetting' together, arms around each other and sharing earphones.
For a moment, it felt like the early 2000s all over again, when Meteor Garden mania swept across Asia.
The emotional moment wasn’t lost on fans either.
Many took to social media to remember the late Barbie Hsu (Da S), who played Shan Cai in the drama. She passed away from pneumonia in February.
Comments like “Shan Cai must be listening from heaven” and “If Da S were still here, she’d definitely have joined them on stage” flooded online platforms.
Now that Mayday has pulled off this surprise reunion, fans are more hopeful than ever that F4’s 25th anniversary concert tour in 2026 could finally become a reality.
